des pommes

My grandmother used to send us a box of Japanese cooking apple every year.  It's a different kind than American cooking apple, and also different from common Japanese kinds.  This very red and small apple is my absolute favorite, and actually, I don't like other kinds of apple that much.

After my grandmother passed away, it was only last year that I realized, I can buy a box myself.  I was so used to the idea of someone else sending me boxes of fruits, that it didn't occur me to do it myself.
The only drawback of this apple is that it doesn't last more than a few weeks, even being kept in a cold room.  So I made 2 kinds of apple sauce, baked with cinnamon, then baked a tarte.  My apartment now smells like heaven - butter and apple and angel.
